Established in 1955 Kehilat Moriah is the oldest running Conservative Synagogue in Israel.

2025 marks our 70th year of service for the nearly 300,000 residents of the City of Haifa.  Operating as the principal home for Conservative (Masorti) egalitarian Jewish life in Haifa, the Congregation like other Masorti congregations in Israel, does not receive government funding or permanent housing and must rely on its own fundraising capabilities, as well as monetary support from the Masorti Movement in Israel to sustain its operations.

 For sixty years the synagogue grew in parallel with the growth of the surrounding neighbourhoods.  Moriah was, and still is the home for both immigrants choosing to make Haifa their home and for native Israelis who understand that conservative Judaism is the right path to take for those wishing to express their Judaic values and beliefs in a modern Israel.

 

​For many years, Moriah operated a successful pre-school program, runs (in conjunction with the Schechter Rabbinical school) an adult education program, serves as the Haifa home for the Masorti Movement’s “Adraba” Bar/Bat Mitvah program for children with special needs, conducts countless Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies to our rabbis have officiated in hundreds of weddings and led inter-religious and inter-ethnic programs in a city which boast diversity and equality amongst all religions and ethnic groups.

 

For decades we have been leading Tikun Olam programs that feed Haifa’s residents in need. These are just a few examples of the areas of focus Moriah has been engaged in throughout the years.
